The Belt and Road Initiative is a Mainland Chinese initiative designed to stimulate infrastructure investments along the ancient overland and maritime trade routes. Since it was announced by Xi Jinping in 2013 there has been a large number of trade agreements signed between China and numerous countries in Asia and Europe as well as between Hong Kong and these countries. The focus for Hong Kong is take advantage of this activity and promote the SAR as the number one service provider in the fields of financial services, investment, IP, rule of law etc. The keynote event for TDC is the Belt & Road Summit which is a one day event held on 18 May 2016. Various high-ranking politicians and business people will meet in Hong Kong to discuss the opportunities that Belt & Road will bring to the region. Belt & Road is probably the biggest and most impactful infrastructure project since the US’s Marshall Plan after WWII. It cements China position as the key region power broker and has the potential to radically increase the markets for Chinese goods and services.

As I mentioned to you there are two main areas we are promoting – attract Australian business to attend the Summit on the 18th of May and encouraging HK based companies, service providers to get listed on the Portal.  There are good information on many countries and economies as well as investment projects listed by local government.  There are also around 100 companies in Hong Kong listed as preferred or recommended service providers for Australian businesses plan and investing along the Belt and Road. The portal and initial services through our site are currently free.  Available in English, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese, this Portal provides a listing of service providers and information on markets, sectors, policies, project opportunities, news and analyses that can facilitate business decisions and help you connect with relevant counterparts. You will find the following information:

  • Country economic profiles
  • Official policy documents
